BSF is Border Security Force that comes under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It is the primary border guarding force of India and one of the five Central Armed Police Forces of the Union of India, that was raised in wake of the 1965 War on 1 December 1965, for ensuring the security of the borders of India and for matters connected with that place. It is a Central Armed Police Force charged with guarding India’s land border during peacetime and preventing trans-national crime.

Let’s talk about posts of Head Constable(HC)[Radio Operator], and ASI (Assistant Sub Inspector) [Radio Mechanics] in this article. Exams for these respective posts are conducted every year.

BSF Selection process:
As we all know that a lot of candidates appear for these exams, so it is not possible to provide every one with the job at the end. Therefore there are some standards maintained by the Department. If you fulfil these eligibility criteria, you can apply for the posts.

Eligibility that you must fulfill to apply for HC (Radio Operator) posts:
The applicants who are willing to apply must make sure that they must be at least matriculation passed/ intermediate passed in PCM along with diploma in any of the following:
- Radio & TV Technology
- Electronics
- Telecommunications
- Computer
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Domestic Appliances Engineering
from a recognized university or institution with at least 55% marks attained in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Diploma in ITI from a relevant trade.
Eligibility that you must fulfil to apply for ASI (Radio Mechanics) posts:
Matriculation or equivalent with two years of ITI certificate in Radio and TV or Electronics or Intermediate or 10 + 2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics from a recognized Board or Institution.
Age Criteria:
For HC (RO) posts, willing candidates age must not preceed 18 years and should not exceed by 23 years and for ASI (RM) post age should not preceed 18 years and exceed 25 years.
- SC/ST: 5 years
- OBC: 3 years
- Domicile in Jammu and Kashmir: 5 years
- Victims of 1984 riots: 5 years
- Government Servants: 5 years
Physical Criteria:
Candidates who are willing to apply must make sure that their height is 170 cms, chest is 80 cms (85 cms after expansion) and weight must be corresponding to height (as per medical standards)
Medical Criteria:
Candidates who are applying should have a minimum distant vision of 6/6 and 6/9 of the both eyes without correction (without glasses).
Note: They must be capable to pass high-grade colour vision test. Must not have knock-knees, flat feet or squint in eyes and any defect/deformity, likely to interfere with the efficient performance of the duties.
Selection Procedure:
Candidates who are willing to apply must make sure that they have to apppear written as well as physical test, documents verification test, personal interview, and then they will be selected based on their final merit list.
Written Exam Procedure:
This is going to be phase 1 for the slection of the candidates for these vacant situations. Paper will be of 200 marks.
Topics that are going to be covered:
Part I: Physics(60 marks)
Part II: Mathematics(60 marks)
Part III: Chemistry(30 marks)
Part IV: English and General Knowledge(50 marks)
Those who will qualify the merit list for the selection of candidates in phase 1, will be able to appear for phase 2.
Phase 2 for the selection of candidates is going to be:
1. Preliminary Screening
2. Physical Efficiency
3. Dictation Test
4. Verification of Original Documents
5. Personal Interview
6. Medical Examination
Phase 2 exam will be conducted as:
PET: Physical Efficiency Test
1) 1.6 kms race in 6.5 minute, or 5 km in (BSF Running time and distance).
2) 3.65 mtr long jump. You will be given three chances to qualify this test.If you qualify in any of the three chances, you will be selected for further process.
3) 1.2 mtr high jump. You have to qualify this is 3 chnaces.
Dictation Test: It will be dictation test in english and will consist of 10 marks. Those who will qualify this will be taken for further procedures.
Document Verification Test and Personal Interview: Those who will qualify the above stages will be asked to appear for these rounds. Personal Interview will be of 25 marks. Those who will qualify the personal interview round will be asked for medical test.
You will have to qualify all these rounds with good grades, so that you can be shortlisted in the merit list and can be easily selected for the posts.
